The news of his selection to the senior team came as a surprise to all-rounder Rajiv Ivan, but the 25-year-old Berbician said it is the reward for hard work over the years. Ivan is joined by Essequibo’s big-hitting batsman, Dilon Heyliger, as the two uncapped players in Guyana’s 14-man squad for next month’s Caribbean T20 Cup slated for Antigua and Barbados from the January 9-22.

During an exclusive interview with Guyana Times International, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club cricketer revealed that while the selection came as a surprise to him, he is equally excited.
“I am surprised by the selection. I have been working on my game really hard and I have told myself that I will represent Guyana one day and today my hard work has paid off,” an elated Ivan added. Ivan, who was part of the St. Stanislaus College team in the 2005 Sir Garfield Sobers tournament in Barbados, is eager to make full use of the opportunity once he secures a place in the final eleven.
“I will grab the opportunity with both hands and make full use of it once I am in the final eleven. I know my ability and I am up for the challenge,” the Berbice senior player revealed.”
Ivan impressed the selectors during the recently concluded GCB organised Carib/ Pepsi T20 tournament with both bat and ball, playing for the third place winner, Church’s Chicken Corentyne Titans.
“He is a genuine all-rounder who we believe will be a vital player for Guyana in this format of the game,” Chairman of the Senior Selection panel, Rayon Griffith, said.
